The AAIFNC announces its annual educational symposium, 'Bridges to Understanding.' The symposium will be held on Saturday, February 11th, 2012, at the JW Marriott Hotel, San Francisco.

AAiFNC 2012 Symposium Agenda

CONFERENCE EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES

At the conclusion of this program, the participant will:

  • Identify patients with oral allergy syndrome (OAS) and predict outcomes of patients to treat appropriately along with counseling patients concerning treatment for severe food allergies.
  • Understand limits of neonatal screening for SCID, when to perform a workup for PID, and how to interpret results of laboratory testing.
  • Understand differences between current immunotherapy techniques, those in development, and the scientific basis for comparing various forms of immunotherapy.
  • Understand asthma as a heterogeneous group of disorders, sharing similar symptoms, but different mechanisms, and ultimately different outcomes.
  • Recognize symptoms of hereditary angioedema and when to suspect and perform appropriate screening, as well as selecting appropriate treatment for individuals to minimize morbidity and improve outcomes.
  • Understand the role of the innate immune system (IIS) and its interaction with the adaptive immune system and how to identify autoimmune disorders on the basis of symptoms, and the potential benefits and risks of medications available for the treatment of autoimmunity.
  • Derive an understanding of symbiotic gut and skin microflora, in sustaining health, optimizing probiotic/dietary therapy to improve human health, and prevent microbiota-associated diseases, such as allergies, while understanding the limits of probiotic therapy.
